Our Mission
Czech Craft Heritage was founded with a simple but meaningful purpose: to bring the stories of Czech traditional crafts to an international audience. The Czech Republic holds one of Europe's most diverse and well-preserved traditions of handmade art, from world-renowned Bohemian glass to the quiet precision of bobbin lace and the seasonal beauty of hand-painted Easter eggs.
Many of these crafts are at risk of fading from public awareness as modern lifestyles change and younger generations seek different paths. By researching, writing about, and sharing these traditions, we aim to support the artisans, institutions, and communities working to keep them alive.
What We Cover
Our articles focus on the practical, historical, and cultural dimensions of Czech crafts. We explore:
- The history and evolution of specific craft traditions
- Techniques used by artisans, explained for a general audience
- Regional differences in styles and approaches
- Museums, workshops, and festivals where visitors can experience crafts firsthand
- The challenges facing traditional crafts in the contemporary world
- Efforts to preserve skills through education, tourism, and heritage recognition
Our Approach
We believe that craft traditions deserve thoughtful, well-researched coverage. Our writing draws on published historical sources, museum resources, and the expertise of Czech cultural institutions. We aim to provide content that is both informative for newcomers and valuable for those already familiar with Czech folk art.
All images used on this site are sourced from public domain or Creative Commons-licensed collections, primarily Wikimedia Commons, and are credited appropriately. We do not use stock photography or AI-generated imagery.
